Gangster Geishas double-fisting 40's, sporting
geta
sandals with 5" spikes, just as likely to be hired for
the ancient art of
pleasure as for the ancient art
of strangling men in their sleep. Or fighting
giant robots.Half naked women sitting as the topping
on
ice cream; having fun on the office Xerox;
falling in love with demons
sent to destroy the world. This is the
world of Oren Kramek, the libido on speed and taboos seen as cliches to be
ignored. But first and foremost Kramek is a comic book artist, his work split
equally between his roots in the avant garde as much as in the superheroes,
supermodels and zombies of the his graphic novel-reading youth. His style,
though often beyond the boring limitations of semantic rules, can still be
said to maintain constant motion, combining the cartoonish and the real as
well as still-life with the dynamic-- double entendres and paradoxes are his
modus operandi.
Israeli-born Kramek splits his time between
walking the
desert-dusted streets of
Tel Aviv, where he developed his craft and his distinct views on life,
and
New York, where he makes his living as a freelance illustrator and
designer.
Hardworking artist by day, by night you'll find Kramek dutifully
continuing the long practiced and necessary tradition of the artist
searching for his muse-- usually at the bottom of a pitcher of beer of two in
some of the seedier bars
New York has to offer.
