Back in 2000,1 became an artist by lucky
chance, having entered and
sold a few drawings in a local amateur art
exhibition. Up until that
point I had shown my artwork to very few
people, and my sketching was
almost a secret activity.
Briefly, since then I've drawn whenever I've
have the time, and thanks
largely to the wonderful world of the
Internet, people have kept-on
viewing and buying my pictures. Every once
in a while my artwork
attracts a little extra attention, and I am
very proud that some of
my drawings have been published in magazines
like GQ and
Club International.
I draw mainly female nude figure studies,
because that what got me
started, but I occasionally get asked to
take-on portrait commissions
of people with their clothes on, which makes
a pleasant change. I draw
purely for pleasure, and never undertake any
project that does not
appeal to me personally. It's nice to be
selfish once in a while. I describe myself as an amateur artist. I
have a full time job working in an unrelated field, which I am happy to
keep doing, and would only give up if I some phenomenal opportunity
came along.
My taste in art is mainly pre-Raphalite
paintings by English artists
of the Victorian period. I love the detail,
the accuracy, the textures, and the romanticism of the
subjects. I've tried painting in oils, but it just takes so long I never seem
to finish anything pencil drawings usually take about 10 hours
to complete, but the oils take months!
